🚨 LATEST NEWS: The U.S. Department of the Treasury 🇺🇸 has reported that China 🇨🇳 has attacked their workstations in a cyberattack.
According to Reuters, state-sponsored hackers from China breached the computer security perimeter of the U.S. Department of the Treasury this month and stole documents in what the Treasury has described as a "major effort," according to a letter provided to Reuters on Monday.
👉🏼 Hackers infiltrated a third-party network service provider and were able to access unclassified documents, the letter stated.
📝 According to the letter, the hackers "gained access to the keys used by the provider to secure the cloud-based service used to provide remote technical support to end users of the Treasury Department (DO). With access to the stolen keys, the threat actor could bypass security services, remotely access some workstations of primary Treasury Department users, and access a number of unclassified documents held by users."
🇺🇸 The Treasury Department stated that they were alerted by BeyondTrust about the service breach on December 8 and are working with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the FBI to assess the impact of the attack.
