Co-founder of Ethereum Vitalik Buterin made a donation of 10 million baht (292,000 dollars) to support wildlife conservation efforts at the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand.
Khao Kheow Zoo reported on social media that Buterin has become a sponsor of a pygmy hippopotamus named Mu Deng. The funds will be directed to the zoo's wildlife sponsorship project.
Buterin visited the zoo in November during Devcon, the flagship Ethereum conference held in Bangkok. His words and actions highlight the strengthening ties between Thailand and the Ethereum community.
The donation will be used to provide Mu Deng and other pygmy hippopotamuses with suitable habitats, as well as to build an educational center where visitors will learn about the lives of these animals.
The zoo aims to dispel common myths about pygmy hippos. Unlike their larger relatives, pygmy hippos are passive, smaller in size, and primarily nocturnal, often avoiding contact with humans.
