Playing with USDT transfers, my friend lost $58,000, it's terrible!
Newcomers to the cryptocurrency field must be very careful; if you're not careful, your money can disappear in an instant.
Just today, a friend of mine encountered this issue. He wanted to transfer $58,000 worth of USDT from KuCoin to his business partner's wallet. His partner provided an ERC20 network receiving address, but he mistakenly selected the Polygon network during the transfer without realizing it. After confirming, the money was deducted from his account, but his partner didn't receive it at all. He was frantic and wanted to get the money back, tried several times, but it was hopeless. Why? Because the OKX wallet doesn't support deposits on the Polygon network, and just like that, over $50,000 went down the drain.
The lesson from this incident should be remembered by everyone:
First, wrong network selection. The money was supposed to go through the ERC20 network, but it ended up on the Polygon network; this mistake means the money can't be retrieved.
Second, cryptocurrency transfers are not like bank transfers. If a bank makes a mistake, you can ask them to reverse it, but in cryptocurrency, once you hit confirm, forget about getting the money back; you can only accept your bad luck.
How can you avoid making the same mistake as my friend? Here are a few tips:
1. Carefully verify the wallet address: Before every transfer, check the receiving address and the corresponding network letter by letter. Don't be afraid of the hassle; spending a few extra minutes now can save a lot of headaches later.
2. Confirm network compatibility: Before transferring, always check if the selected network matches what the receiving wallet supports. If unsure, ask someone; don't guess.
3. Test large transfers with small amounts first: If you're preparing to transfer a large sum of money, first transfer a small amount to see if it goes through smoothly. If everything is okay, then transfer the larger amount; this is much safer.
Having said that, everyone should understand the basic logic now. Recently, Dao Ge has also found a few good memes, including Pepe, Neiro, and Elon Musk's dog PP, especially Elon Musk's dog PP, which has been very popular lately, with over 16,000 addresses on the Ethereum aristocrat chain, low market cap, and huge potential.
