Dogecoin's founder Billy Markus recently proposed a bold idea—to make Dogecoin more 'precious', meaning it would become rare and valuable. This proposal instantly caused a stir in the cryptocurrency community.
Markus's plan includes several steps: First, programmers will make technical adjustments on GitHub to reduce the total supply of Dogecoin by modifying settings; secondly, the support of the community and miners is also crucial. Everyone needs to reach a consensus to implement this transformation. Currently, the total supply of Dogecoin is approximately 146.78 billion coins, with an annual increase of 5 billion coins. Although the increment is fixed, its proportion relative to the total supply is getting smaller.
Unlike Bitcoin, Dogecoin does not have a fixed total supply limit and can theoretically be issued infinitely, similar to an endless buffet. Markus pointed out that the rules of Bitcoin can also change if everyone is willing, which also indicates the flexibility of blockchain technology.
If Markus's proposal is successful, Dogecoin will become rarer and might surpass the current 'generous' issuance model, becoming a more valuable digital asset. Whether Dogecoin truly becomes 'precious' in the future still requires a joint decision from the community and miners, so let’s wait and see!
