A recent attempt by a crypto founder to use a selfie with Binance’s Changpeng Zhao for promotional purposes appears to be misleading. In a now-deleted social media post, 5ireChain founder Pratik Gauri wrote “What’s cooking?” next to a selfie with CZ. Notably, the caption was accompanied by a handshake emoji in an apparent attempt to imply that there was some sort of behind-the-scenes goings-on involving the former Binance CEO.

CZ quickly clarified that he had absolutely nothing to do with Gauri, explaining that this was just a random selfie at an event. In fact, the two didn't even talk.

This is exactly how NOT to use a selfie with me.

In a follow-up post, CZ said people should “raise the alarm” if a person or project misuses a selfie for promotional purposes. “It’s okay to post a selfie when I meet someone I like/admire. But I would never use it to promote my project unless explicitly given permission,” he added.
