Hawk Meme Coin Business Partner Turns on Haliey Welch
Overhere, the company claiming to have launched the HAWK meme coin – named after Internet sensation Haliey Welch, also known as Hawk Tuah Girl – has thrown her under the bus and blamed her team for the token’s demise.
HAWK was launched on Solana at the beginning of December amid much fanfare, but tumbled by more than 90% mere hours later. Angry investors called the launch a classic rug pull, where a team abandons a project after extracting funds from unsuspecting buyers.
And now, Overhere, in a bid to absolve itself of any wrongdoing in the scandal, posted a thread on X placing the blame squarely on Welch and Alexander Larson Shultz also known as “Doc Hollywood,” son-in-law of Canadian actor and comedian Howie Mandel and a key member of the HAWK team.
“Our goal was simple – bring web2 fans into web3 seamlessly. For free,” Overhere said. “We pushed harder and harder, perhaps through rose-tinted glasses and naivety about others’ intentions, even as the project began to unravel.”
The thread details how Overhere worked on the project for free with no official contract or financial compensation. The company underscores how the technology behind the launch “still works” and even invites so-called “real fans” to claim their tokens.
Ultimately, Overhere paints a picture of a naïve firm duped by wily memecoin architect – Shultz – who exploits the fame of a seemingly clueless Welch.
“This project needs Hailey’s team to step up, Doc to step down [and a] full treasury audit,” the company said. “Ready when you are Hailey Welch.”
But people responding to Overhere’s thread claimed the post rang hollow.
“Are you trying to spin the facts because you know you launched a scam,” asked one respondent. “Worst thread I’ve ever read possibly in my entire life,” said another. “Our goal was simple – bring web2 grifters into web3 to rug it seamlessly,” said a third person sarcastically.
HAWK was trading at $0.001219 at the time of reporting, down 9.38% in the last twenty-four hours. The token traded as high as $0.003703 on December 5, according to data from Crypto.com.
