Bitcoin Helps Metaplanet Turnaround, Expects Profit After 7 Years

Metaplanet, a Tokyo-listed investment firm, is forecasting its first operating profit since 2017, thanks to the strong growth of Bitcoin. Revenue is expected to reach 890 million Japanese yen (about $5.8 million), up 71% year-on-year, mainly from Bitcoin put options, which brought in 520 million Japanese yen. The company has chosen Bitcoin as a reserve asset since April 2024 to hedge against inflation and market volatility, and is currently the second-largest Bitcoin holder in Asia. Metaplanet actively uses financial strategies such as Bitcoin put options to generate stable revenue and continues to buy more Bitcoin through bond issuance. This shows that Bitcoin plays an important role in its business strategy and has generated significant profits for Metaplanet in a short period of time.
