On Tuesday, US lawmakers held a closed-door classified hearing with members of the intelligence community to discuss ongoing drone activity. Belleville, New Jersey, Mayor Michael Melham claimed that drones appeared to be searching for something after radioactive material went missing from the Port of Newark.
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission reported that a shipment containing “less than category 3” radioactive material arrived damaged and empty. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection located the radioactive material last week. Despite concerns, the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Aviation Administration, and Department of Defense stated that the drone sightings were explainable by normal air traffic, drone pilots, and natural phenomena.
