According to Techub News, the U.S. Department of Justice stated that Virginia man Mohammed Azharuddin Chhipa was recently found guilty of charges related to providing material support, such as cryptocurrency, to the terrorist organization 'ISIS'. Court records and evidence presented during the trial indicated that from at least October 2019 to October 2022, Chhipa raised and transferred funds to female members of ISIS in Syria, seeking to profit ISIS in various ways. During this time, Chhipa raised funds online through various social media accounts, converted the funds into cryptocurrency, sent them to Turkey, and then smuggled them to ISIS members in Syria, totaling over $185,000 in cryptocurrency sent.

Chhipa was convicted of five charges, each carrying a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 5, 2025.
