Former Prime Minister Thaksin reveals Thailand is testing payments with Bitcoin
Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has revealed that the Thai government is testing Bitcoin payments. In a recent seminar, he stated that the government has established a sandbox area to allow the use of Bitcoin at popular tourist destinations such as Phuket and Hua Hin. This initiative aims to boost the tourism sector and provide opportunities for people to get accustomed to using cryptocurrency for daily payments.
In addition to Bitcoin, Mr. Thaksin also mentioned the possibility of issuing a stablecoin backed by government bonds to maintain cash flow in the economy without the need to print more cash. He asserted that if implemented, this move could create growth momentum for the Thai economy. Thailand is striving to become a "crypto hub" in Southeast Asia, with many supportive policies for the development of the cryptocurrency industry.
