Canadian rapper Drake’s X account was hacked to promote a Solana meme coin, adding him to the growing list of celebrity hacks. Drake suffered the hack on Saturday night, with the individual behind the attack using it to promote a shady meme coin. The hacker used it to promote Anita, a coin referencing Drake’s alter ego Anita Max Wynn.

The character was designed to portray his love for gambling, and always citing the fact that he needs a max win. The hacker went as far as claiming that the $ANITA token was launched in collaboration with Drake-affiliated betting platform Stake. The hack also coincided with Drake’s Anita Max Wynn tour, which will take him to New Zealand and Australia for the first time since 2017.

Drake’s account hack sounds like trouble in the crypto industry

The coin saw $5 million in trading volume before users discovered it was a scam. According to DexScreener, as soon as the con was discovered, every activity related to the coin ground to a halt. This hack is just one of the most recent celebrity account hacks to promote tokens in the industry. Last week, Cardano suffered a breach of its X account, with the hacker using it to promote a meme coin.

The Cardano hack was not as successful as Drake’s, only bringing in $500,000. Other celebrities include Cardi B, Metallica, and Doja Cat. Meanwhile, those who already bought in because of Drake’s influence will not be able to seek reprieve, seeing that even the rapper was unaware of what was going on with his account during the period.

However, this is not the first brush with crypto controversy that Drake will be invoked in. Recently, a 20-year-old accused him and another individual of stiffing her on a $2 million crypto deal. The allegations were made during DJ Akademiks’ livestream, causing trouble for Drake’s controversial nature.

It remains unknown if Drake was targeted due to his history in the crypto market, but fraud in the crypto market is not slowing down anytime soon. In October Truth Terminal founder Andy Ayrey’s account was hacked to promote a token called IB. The hackers netted $600 million in profits from the scam.

Meanwhile, the Cardano hack was routine propaganda where they spread lies about an SEC lawsuit to push another SEC token. The modus operandi, however, is always the same across every hack. They breach the account, peddle lies about a token, and steal from unsuspecting users.
