Elected U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he has chosen former U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell for the position of special envoy of the head of state for special assignments. Trump wrote about this on the social network Truth Social on the night of December 15.

According to Trump, Richard Grenell "will work in the hottest spots in the world, including Venezuela and North Korea." He noted that the envoy will "fight for peace through strength."

According to Reuters, earlier Donald Trump considered Richard Grenell for the position of special envoy for the Russian-Ukrainian war, but ultimately proposed appointing former National Security Council Secretary Keith Kellogg to this position.

Richard Grenell is the author of one of the plans for the Russian-Ukrainian war that Donald Trump is considering. Two other plans were developed by the candidate for the position of special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, and elected Vice President J.D. Vance, Reuters reported, citing sources.

The 58-year-old Grenell served as U.S. Ambassador to Germany from 2018 to 2020 and also acted as Director of National Intelligence from February to May 2020.
