The Democratic Party of the United States has selected Maxine Waters to continue serving as a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee. According to Golden Finance, Democratic members have chosen the senior members of the key committee of the 119th Congress, as the party prepares to become the minority party. The Democrats announced on December 11 that California Congresswoman Maxine Waters will continue to serve as a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee until the new Congress is sworn in in 2025. It is reported that the House committee is responsible for legislation and policies affecting the financial services industry, including the cryptocurrency sector. Republican Congressman Patrick McHenry from North Carolina will serve as the committee chairman until he steps down on January 3 of next year. Since the Republicans took the majority in the House in January 2023, Congresswoman Waters has held the position of senior member of the committee, which is the highest leadership position of the minority party. As McHenry is set to leave, some Republicans are considering candidates to succeed him as the next committee chairman, including the chairman of the Digital Assets Subcommittee, French Hill. The party is expected to decide on leadership positions within the next seven days.
