Odaily Planet Daily News: Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the 'Ultracluster' plan, a large AI supercomputer made up of hundreds of thousands of internal Trainium chips, set to go live in 2025. At the annual AWS re:Invent conference, AWS unveiled Project Rainier, which is touted as the world's largest AI computing cluster, to be used by Anthropic, an AI startup that Amazon recently invested $4 billion in. AWS's Trainium chips are designed by Annapurna Labs, a subsidiary of Amazon located in Texas. Annapurna was acquired in 2015, driving Amazon's AI chip development aimed at reducing reliance on Nvidia. The company also launched a new Ultraserver during the event, which features 64 interconnected Trainium chips. AWS also announced that Apple is one of its latest chip customers. Benoit Dupin, Senior Director of Machine Learning and AI at Apple, noted that they are testing the Trainium2 chips, which are expected to save approximately 50% in costs. (CryptoBriefing)
