TechFlow reported on December 3rd that Bitcoin.com reported that Bitcoin.org domain maintainer Cobra warned that in 2025, the Bitcoin network may see a user-led soft fork (UASF) initiated by anonymous developers outside the Bitcoin Core project to introduce the CTV (Check Template Verify) function. CTV aims to introduce the concept of smart contracts, allowing Bitcoin spending conditions to be set in specific wallets.
The proposal originated from Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 119 (BIP 119), proposed by Jeremy Lubin, and is mainly used to enhance transaction security. Supporters believe that CTV can provide a safer cold storage solution, while opponents worry that it may affect the fungibility of Bitcoin and increase the complexity of the code base. Cobra said that due to the potential risk of litigation, these improvements will be promoted by non-Bitcoin core developers, which may cause major differences between "hardening faction" and "improvement faction".
