Jorge Tenreiro, the acting head of the U.S. SEC's cryptocurrency and cybersecurity oversight division, has been appointed as the agency's chief litigation counsel, expanding his responsibilities.
However, based on Tenreiro's experience at the SEC, he will continue to rigorously enforce regulations. Even if the political environment changes, investor protection and market integrity will remain priorities.
Under his leadership, the SEC has brought several high-profile cases against cryptocurrency companies. For instance, Tenreiro played a key role in the SEC's lawsuit against Ripple Labs and its executives Brad Garlinghouse and Chris Larsen. As the lead lawyer, he handled the allegations regarding XRP being an unregistered security.
Tenreiro's new position indicates that while he encourages cryptocurrency innovation, he will still strictly enforce securities laws, with a continued focus on ICOs, token offerings, and combating market manipulation in the cryptocurrency space. (Cryptonews)
