Ethereum (abbreviated as ETH; Ξ) is a public platform and decentralized open-source cryptocurrency based on blockchain technology that performs a smart contract function through which it facilitates the conclusion of an online contract that mimics traditional contracts in reality while providing an element of security and trust. Ether is the second currency after Bitcoin in terms of market capitalization.
Ethereum was proposed in late 2013 by Russian-Canadian programmer Vitalik Buterin. Its development was crowdfunded during July–August 2014. Ethereum's founders include Gavin Wood, Charles Hoskinson, Anthony Di Iorio, and Joseph Lubin. The platform went live on July 30, 2015.
Ethereum allows users to create and exchange non-fungible tokens, which are unique tokens that represent ownership of an associated asset or privilege, and also allows anyone to publish permanent, immutable decentralized software that users can interact with. Decentralized exchanges provide a wide range of financial services without the need for typical financial intermediaries such as brokerages, exchanges, or banks, allowing cryptocurrency users to borrow against their holdings or lend them for interest#MarketDownturn $ETH
