Tesla has launched an Apple Watch app that allows for the use of a digital key, as well as a car update that offers safety improvements and additional entertainment features.
The app now allows users to start their cars, open the trunk, and check the battery status directly from the watch.
The new app gives Tesla users more flexibility, especially for those who like to leave their phones behind while performing daily tasks, and replaces third-party apps, such as the “Watch for Tesla” app, that used to provide these functions.
The update also includes the ability to view Sentry security mode and Dashcam recordings via a smartphone, with the ability to save clips and quickly share them with insurance companies or law enforcement.
The update also includes other features, such as Rear Cross Traffic Alert, which alerts drivers if vehicles or pedestrians are approaching while reversing, with audio notifications and a warning bar on the camera screen, and automatically lowering the volume when reversing while driving.
Tesla has added new options to the navigation system, such as displaying weather indicators, and calculating the turnaround time when searching for places on the road. Drivers can also specify the required charging percentage upon reaching their destination, which helps in planning trips better.
The update will begin rolling out to users gradually over the next week, enhancing the driving experience in Tesla cars with a comprehensive set of features that combine safety, comfort and entertainment.
