Australia approved a ban on social media for children late on November 28.
American billionaire and owner of the social network X, Elon Musk, stated in his message at the end of November that this seems like "a way to control internet access for all Australians".
The ban, which the left-leaning government calls world-leading, could worsen Australia's relationship with a key ally - the United States, where Musk is a central figure in the administration of newly elected President Donald Trump.
When asked on Sunday if Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was ready to talk to Musk about the social media ban, he replied: "I am ready to talk to anyone".
"As for Elon Musk, he has an agenda and he has the right to promote it as the owner of company X, formerly known as Twitter," Albanese added during an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
