The Shiba Inu development team has successfully implemented an emergency security upgrade for the Shibarium bridge.
This update comes ahead of a major hard fork expected to enhance the network's performance and scalability.
Shibarium prepares for a major hard fork following the emergency bridge upgrade
On November 30, Shiba Inu ecosystem developer Kaal Dhairya confirmed the completion of a significant maintenance effort on the Shibarium bridge. This upgrade temporarily placed the bridge in maintenance mode to address security concerns and prepare for upcoming changes. Dhairya reassured users that their funds remained safe throughout the process.
The bridge allows seamless and secure token transfers between Ethereum and Shibarium. During the maintenance process, token burning was temporarily paused, but the burning rate continues to accumulate in the background. With the security upgrade now complete, the bridge is back in operation.
Dhairya confirmed that while the bridge is operational, the upgrade of the burn contracts is still underway. These improvements will continue over the weekend and into next week.
"Maintenance has been completed and the Shibarium bridge is now fully operational. We are still working on upgrading the burn contracts, which will continue over the weekend and into next week," Mr. Dhairya said.
This update arrives as Shibarium, the Layer 2 blockchain solution of Shiba Inu, prepares for an important hard fork. Scheduled for early next week, the hard fork aims to optimize network performance, improve transaction speeds, and address scalability issues. These improvements are expected to lay the groundwork for Shibarium's long-term growth, ensuring it can handle increasing demand while maintaining efficiency.
"A hard fork is an important protocol upgrade that can introduce new features, address performance bottlenecks, and enhance overall functionality. For Shiba Inu's Layer 2 scalability network, the upcoming hard fork is specifically designed to increase throughput and enhance overall capacity," the announcement stated.
Since its launch last year, Shibarium has gained significant traction. The platform has processed nearly 600 million transactions and reached the 500 million milestone earlier this month. Additionally, about 2 million blockchain addresses have interacted with Shibarium, and the network has successfully processed over 8 million blocks.

Thus, the upcoming upgrade represents a strategic milestone for the Shiba Inu ecosystem, signaling a commitment to innovation and network improvement as it expands its capabilities in the blockchain space.
