The Web3 protocol WalletConnect, which allows connecting wallets like MetaMask to dapps, has launched the first season of the airdrop. During this, the project will distribute 50 million WCT tokens in the L2 network Optimism.
A total of 185 million WCT is allocated for distributions out of a total emission of 1 billion.
From the first tranche, 30 million coins are designated for users, and 20 million are reserved to reward the first participants of the protocol, including node operators, wallet providers, application developers, and contributors on GitHub.
To participate in the airdrop, it was necessary to open an account in WalletConnect, connect a wallet, and conduct on-chain operations by October 18.
Initially, users will not be able to transfer WCT, but they will have the opportunity to lock them in staking to earn additional income.
It is assumed that the community will consider possible expansions of the asset's use cases in the future. In 2025, it is planned to implement payment for network services and participation in project management using WCT as the decentralization roadmap is implemented.
Unclaimed tokens from the first airdrop season will be distributed by the project in subsequent distributions.
Recall that in November 2023, WalletConnect restricted access to the protocol for users from the Russian Federation, but resumed services two weeks later.
