According to Deep Tide TechFlow, on November 27, CoinDesk reported that Japanese social media giant Line plans to launch a blockchain application (Dapp) platform by the end of January 2025. According to Sam Seo, chairman of Kaia DLT Foundation, the first batch will launch with 30 Dapps, with plans to expand to 150 by the end of the first quarter.
The platform will target 196 million active users of Line globally, mainly covering the markets of Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia. Seo stated that the platform will focus on gaming applications, while also including social, DeFi, and AI-based chat applications. This move is the latest development in social media platforms laying out blockchain technology, following Telegram's launch of games like Catizen and Hamster Kombat on the TON blockchain.
Line previously launched an NFT marketplace in April 2022. Seo believes that the reason previous NFT projects failed to achieve widespread adoption is due to the need for improvement in user experience and interface design, as well as users viewing NFTs merely as investment tools rather than certificates of ownership.
