The organizer of the OneCoin crypto pyramid, Ruja Ignatova, may be hiding in Russia, as she likely has ties to the Kremlin. This was reported by Decrypt, citing BBC journalist Yoran Tsalov.
According to Tsalov, the indirect connection of Ignatova to the Kremlin was confirmed by her former security advisor Frank Schneider. The latter was placed under house arrest in France due to connections with OneCoin but went into hiding in 2023.
The Decrypt source also pointed out that some companies that laundered money as part of this scheme were linked to former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych. The politician fled the country in February 2014.
In January 2019, he was found guilty of treason and sentenced to 13 years in prison. He also resides in Russia.
Tsalov noted that Schneider gave an interview to the BBC shortly before disappearing. According to him, if the former security advisor of OneCoin was able to avoid extradition, then organizing Ignatova's escape would also be within his capabilities.
"Criminals find it much more beneficial to keep her alive," the journalist believes.
The publication emphasized that this is Tsalov's personal opinion, which may not coincide with the position of the BBC.
