A website specializing in fact-checking shocking news online, PolitiFact, has published the results of verifying the information that Elon Musk announced a Tesla phone priced at 299 USD, which has caused a stir on social media.
Social media posts quote a statement attributed to billionaire Elon Musk: "The Tesla phone priced at 299 USD will be the end of the iPhone."
The post also provides information such as: the phone costs only 299 USD but offers global satellite Internet connectivity, charges via sunlight, and seamlessly controls your car and home.
Under the posts, many people expressed excitement upon hearing this information, as the price of the phone is very low while its features are very unique. But some also expressed skepticism about the authenticity of this information.
VietTimes has previously published an article mentioning this phone model. In the article, there is a quote from billionaire Elon Musk that Tesla has "too much work" to focus on, rather than producing a smartphone.
VietTimes has also searched for information about this 299 USD phone model from mainstream media sources on the Internet, but found no mention.
Meanwhile, a website specializing in fact-checking shocking news online, PolitiFact, has denied the information about the 299 USD Tesla phone.
This post on the website states: "We found no source confirming the claim that Mr. Musk said this. It does not appear in any reliable news or public statements from Mr. Musk or Tesla. No phone has appeared on Tesla's website."
"We assess that the information Mr. Musk announced about the Tesla phone is false," PolitiFact affirmed.
It is known that PolitiFact has partnerships with Meta (Facebook) and TikTok to exchange information and fact-check fake news.
Clearly, at this point, Mr. Elon Musk has not announced any phone model. And even if there were an announcement, it would not be possible to have a phone priced at 299 USD (7.6 million VND) with advanced features such as satellite connectivity, solar charging, etc.
Therefore, social media users should not share information from unofficial sources. It is necessary to fact-check information from multiple sources, especially from mainstream media. Spreading false information can sometimes harm agencies, organizations, and individuals.
