Crypto.com has been announced as the title sponsor for the upcoming Crypto.com Showdown, a professional golf tournament featuring a prize purse paid entirely in cryptocurrency.

The event, scheduled for Dec. 17, in Las Vegas, will feature PGA Tour stars Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler competing against LIV Golf players Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, according to a press release shared with crypto.news.

The tournament will award a multimillion-dollar prize in CRO (CRO), the native token of Crypto.com. This marks the first instance of a major sports competition offering a prize purse entirely in cryptocurrency.

Crypto.com CEO Kris Marzalek stated that the sponsorship reflects the company’s mission to drive global cryptocurrency adoption.

“This tournament demonstrates the potential of cryptocurrency to reshape the sports and entertainment industries,” Marzalek said.

The event is organized by BZ Entertainment and EverWonder Studio, known for creating innovative sports and entertainment experiences. Producers Bryan Zuriff and Ian Orefice highlighted the Showdown’s aim to “unify and innovate” professional golf while delivering high stakes for both players and fans.
