Sky Mavis, the development company behind the popular game Axie Infinity, has laid off nearly a quarter of its workforce, with 21% of employees being let go. The company’s co-founder, Nguyen Thanh Trung, explained that the layoffs are part of a strategic realignment, not due to financial struggles, and will help the company focus on hypergrowth in the future.

Sky Mavis will prioritize its developmental efforts on the Ronin wallet, Mavis marketplace, Axie Infinity, and a related new game. The Ronin Network, an Ethereum (ETH) gaming-focused sidechain that serves crypto games, including Axie Infinity, has been growing in popularity and now ranks as the third-most-used crypto network.

Despite a few instances of hacking, the company is confident in its future growth and believes that the regulatory shift will boost adoption for not just blockchain gaming but the broader Web3 industry.
