Winners of the 30 most influential figures in blockchain
Peng Shaofu: Chairman of the Taiwan Blockchain University Alliance
Contributions to the industry over the past year:
The Taiwan Blockchain University Alliance, composed of 35 universities with blockchain clubs and communities, continues to cultivate connections between industry and academia, research and teaching, application promotion, anti-fraud and anti-money laundering, career development, and international exchange, making it the largest blockchain student organization in Asia and a member of the YOUNGO youth organization under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Every year, we lead over 3,000 newcomers to accurately understand blockchain and virtual assets, collaborating with universities on credit and micro-credit courses, founding campus seed training for anti-fraud and anti-money laundering; organizing and inviting scholars and experts to conduct study groups and focus communities on blockchain financial laws, smart contracts, DApps (Decentralized Applications), on-chain data, climate action, enterprise-level blockchain, decentralized identity, etc., to cultivate foundational and advanced blockchain talent.
Organizing technology enlightenment actions, pioneering AI and Web3 technology education in indigenous elementary schools, allowing indigenous children to experience VR, future digital scenarios, and large language models of general artificial intelligence.
How do you see the development in 2025?
Q1: What are you most looking forward to seeing in the Web3 industry by 2025?
A16z's research report indicates that this year's number of active addresses and usage rate for virtual assets has reached an all-time high. As of September this year, there are approximately 617 million virtual asset holders worldwide, signaling that Web3 is continuously expanding its reach.
How can we see Web3 expand its reach further in 2025? Technology education is crucial.
The age-agnostic nature of Web3 allows everyone, including children and elderly friends, to experience the interesting, exciting, and risky aspects of decentralized finance.
An 18-year-old student can open a securities account to trade stocks, but an 8-year-old child only needs internet access and a blockchain address (easily generated with one click) to join various decentralized finance games and play derivative products. This is a phenomenon brought about by emerging technology.
I look forward to seeing appropriate, good, and precise technology education implemented to solve widespread issues such as insufficient financial literacy, lack of cybersecurity awareness, weak knowledge of new technology anti-fraud measures, financial exploitation of the elderly, and digital divide.
Q2: From your professional perspective, what do you think is the most important trend in the blockchain industry by 2025? What are your insights and observations?
The mutual understanding and compromise between TradFi (Traditional Finance) and DeFi (Decentralized Finance) remains the most important and unavoidable trend.
The advancement of blockchain and virtual asset regulatory laws is progressing globally, and within a year, Taiwan has seen the issuance of guiding principles, the establishment of the 'Virtual Currency Business Association of the Republic of China' (VASP Association), and the amendment of anti-money laundering laws, highlighting the increasing importance the government places on industry and investor/consumer protection.
This September marks the one-year anniversary of the JPEX fraud case, with returns far exceeding normal market levels, tokens with no liquidity or value, media influencers promoting endorsements, and named events, all vividly remembered. However, the offshore platform was not registered in Taiwan, and domestic regulations were not yet complete, putting the government in a difficult position of being unable to regulate.
Looking ahead to 2025, with the implementation and adjustment of new systems, whether we can fully address regulatory loopholes and promote a positive cycle in the industry is worth paying attention to.
Q3: Are there any interesting plans or products to share for 2025?
The blockchain 'study group' and 'focus community' of the Taiwan Blockchain University Alliance are dedicated to cultivating advanced, professional blockchain talent that meets industry needs, delivering completely free services to students, and receiving long-term recognition from the industry and academia.
In 2025, we will take turns hosting study groups on 'Blockchain Financial Law', 'Smart Contracts and DApp Practical Study Group', 'On-Chain Data Study Group', 'Web3 Brand Growth Study Group', 'Token Flow Tracking Practical Study Group', 'Decentralized ID Study Group', 'Climate Action and Climate Technology Focus Community', 'Web3 Digital Transformation Research Focus Community', etc. It is quite challenging, but the rewards are rich, and those interested are welcome to join.
Additionally, continuing the attempts from 2024, the University Alliance will continue to promote indigenous technology education in 2025, allowing indigenous children to experience and understand Web3 and AI, contributing to bridging the technology and information gap.
At the same time, the University Alliance is committed to promoting Web3 knowledge application and education on anti-fraud and anti-money laundering in virtual assets to all levels of schools, and interested parties are welcome to inquire.
For more information and cooperation details, please contact the University Alliance through various links, FB, and IG.
