[Weekend Reading Club] Recommend reading Mr. Wang Yangming’s books
Wang Yangming’s “unity of knowledge and action” concept
is a profound part of Confucianism, which profoundly expounds the close relationship between knowledge and action.
This concept advocates that true knowledge is not only about understanding and cognition, but also about putting it into practice to achieve the unity of knowledge and action.
Specifically, “knowledge” represents the understanding and recognition of things, while “action” refers to turning this understanding into actual action.
In Wang Yangming’s view, the two are complementary and inseparable.
Only when a person truly applies what he has learned to practice can he be considered to have truly mastered this knowledge.
On the contrary, if there is only theoretical cognition but no actual action, then this cognition is empty and meaningless.
From a modern perspective, the concept of “unity of knowledge and action” has far-reaching practical significance.
It reminds us that while pursuing knowledge and understanding, we should pay more attention to turning this knowledge into actual action.
Whether in study, work or life, we should uphold this concept, put what we have learned into practice, and constantly improve our abilities and qualities.
In addition, "unity of knowledge and action" also emphasizes the importance of personal cultivation and moral practice.
It tells us that to become a virtuous person, we must internalize moral standards as our own code of conduct and constantly practice them in daily life.
Only in this way can we truly be consistent in words and deeds and in appearance and in reality.
