In an announcement on the Elon Musk-owned social network X, the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) said those who want to participate in the effort to cut federal costs should submit their applications via direct message on X.
“We are so grateful to the thousands of Americans who have expressed interest in helping us at DOGE. We don’t need more half-baked idea creators. We need high-IQ government revolutionaries willing to work 80+ hours a week to cut unnecessary costs,” the DOGE announcement said.
“If that’s you, please send a direct message to this account with your resume. Elon & Vivek will consider the top 1% of applicants,” the announcement reads.
Mr. Musk noted that those working on DOGE will not be paid for their efforts to cut spending and streamline government.
On November 12, President-elect Donald Trump announced that billionaires Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will lead the new US "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE).
According to Mr. Musk, DOGE will be completely transparent and will report all its activities on the online platform.
“All Government Efficiency activities will be posted online for maximum transparency. Any time the public thinks we’re cutting something important or not cutting something wasteful, let us know,” Musk said.
He also vowed to create a "ranking board" to list the "least intelligent" spending of taxpayers' money.
DOGE is expected to provide guidance and will work with the White House and US budget agencies to “push forward large-scale structural reforms and create an entrepreneurial approach to government like never before,” according to Trump.
In late October, Mr. Musk promised to save US taxpayers $2,000 billion if Mr. Trump won the election on November 5. At that time, the American billionaire said that taxpayers' money was being wasted, and DOGE would solve that problem.
"We're going to stop the government from bothering you and taking your money. When Mr. Trump proposed the creation of DOGE, he stated that it would be an independent task force tasked with conducting a comprehensive financial and performance audit of the entire federal government and making recommendations for the bold reforms we need," Mr. Musk pledged.
Previously, Mr. Musk warned about the US debt situation, saying that the country was at risk of bankruptcy if it did not control spending.
Billionaire Elon Musk has been the most prominent supporter of Trump’s campaign this year, spending more than $130 million on the super PAC America PAC, making the group a key part of President Trump’s bid to retake the White House.
President-elect Donald Trump expects billionaire Elon, the boss of SpaceX and Tesla, and billionaire Vivek to "make changes to the Federal Bureaucracy with the goal of efficiency and improving life for all Americans".
"Importantly, we will eliminate the massive waste and fraud that exists in our $6.5 trillion in annual government spending. Together, they will free up our economy and make the American government accountable to the people," Mr. Trump stressed.
