Golden Finance reported that at an event in Dallas, when asked whether he would consider becoming the first Fed chairman in more than 70 years to remain on the Fed board after his term as chairman ends, Fed Chairman Powell simply said that he would be committed to completing his term as chairman. Powell said, "I must serve to the end. This is the most important thing during my term. This is what I decided and what I considered." Powell's term as a member of the board of governors will expire in January 2028. The last former chairman to continue to serve after his term as Fed chairman ended was Marina Eccles, who stepped down as Fed chairman in January 1948, but did not step down (as a governor) until July 1951.
