Police in the Canadian province of Quebec have confirmed that the body they found in a Montreal nature park on October 30 belongs to cryptocurrency influencer Kevin Mirshahi, local media reported.
According to the case file, the 25-year-old blogger and his three neighbors were kidnapped from a luxury condominium on De la Commune Street on June 21. While the latter were found 24 hours later near a bus stop in western Montreal, the search for Mirshahi was fruitless for a long time.
Thanks to the victims' testimonies, law enforcement officers learned the address of the house in the basement of which the alleged murder took place, and discovered the burnt-out SUV that was supposedly transporting them.
Mirshahi's body was found on October 30, but police did not release any information about the victim's identity for nearly two weeks.
Joanie LePage, 32, who was arrested at the end of the summer, is accused of committing the crimes.
The investigation continues.
Mirshahi was the administrator of a closed Telegram group called Crypto Paradise Island. In 2021, he became the subject of an AFM investigation into the placement of investment contracts without registration. In 2024, the regulator, by court order, banned the blogger from acting as a broker or investment adviser.
Let us recall that in July, a foreign citizen was killed in Kyiv in order to seize his digital currency worth over $170,000.
Earlier, ForkLog reported that unknown individuals kidnapped the CEO of the Canadian crypto company WonderFi, Dean Skurka, and extorted $1 million.
