Zero Gravity Labs (0G Labs), a primary developer within the 0G ecosystem, shared with Bitcoin.com News that it has raised $40 million in seed funding from multiple venture capital firms, adding to a prior $35 million pre-seed round from earlier in the year. The 0G Foundation, a separate entity overseeing long-term governance for the 0G Protocol, also received a $250 million commitment, bringing the total funding for 0G’s decentralized AI project to $325 million.

Investors in the funding rounds include notable names in the blockchain and tech sectors, such as Hack VC, Delphi Digital, Okx Ventures, Samsung Next, Bankless Ventures, and Animoca, as well as individuals like Sandeep Nailwal and Adrian Cheng. The project’s leadership claims this wide array of supporters emphasizes a strong backing for decentralization in artificial intelligence.

The 0G Foundation’s $250 million commitment, referred to as a “liquid line,” is intended to allow access to liquid digital assets held on exchanges at over-the-counter rates. According to statements from the foundation, these funds are expected to provide financial support for ongoing and future developments within the 0G ecosystem as needed.

According to Michael Heinrich, CEO of 0G Labs, the push toward a decentralized AI system aims to address existing concerns over the centralization of AI technologies, such as control and transparency issues. Heinrich stated that this funding will help accelerate 0G’s vision of a secure and accessible AI operating system, designed to operate on decentralized infrastructure rather than traditional, centralized frameworks.

“With dAIOS, we’re building an open and decentralized AI Operating System that ensures security, transparency, and accessibility. This funding will allow us to accelerate our mission,” Heinrich said.

In practical terms, the proposed AI operating system, called dAIOS, is set to feature decentralized data processing and storage at speeds up to 50 gigabytes per second. This high-throughput system is reportedly designed to support AI processing directly on blockchain networks without off-chain data handling, a feature touted as a unique advantage by 0G’s developers. The 0G Foundation also plans to foster a developer community aligned with its decentralization ethos, with partnerships aimed at strengthening research and development in decentralized AI solutions.
