A fake app impersonating the DeFi platform Curve Finance has unexpectedly entered the top 100 global financial apps on the Apple App Store.

On October 26, an app called “Curve defi v3” suddenly appeared on the App Store and quickly ranked high in the financial app category. The app attracted a large number of downloads from many regions such as Europe, Latin America, New Zealand, the US and Southeast Asia, despite its sketchy description and many negative reviews warning of possible scams.

With a sophisticatedly designed interface, the application impersonated the Curve Finance platform, easily fooling unsuspecting users.

The “Curve defi v3” app, developed by “Tao Duong Van,” claims to provide DeFi services such as token swaps, liquidity staking, and similar products to Curve Finance. To further bolster its credibility, the app also claims to have more than 30 million global users – a claim that is unfounded.

Babu, a fintech engineer and App Store fraud detection expert, warned about the app on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), and urged users to report it to Apple to have it removed. However, Curve Finance has yet to officially respond to the incident.

This is not the first time Curve Finance has been targeted by scammers on the App Store. Previously, in February 2023, the platform warned users about another fake app called “MK Technology.”
