The US president is expected to sign an order on Monday, October 30, establishing guidelines for reviewing the government's use of artificial intelligence tools.

According to The Washington Post on October 24, US President Biden is expected to sign an executive order on the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI).

The order, which is likely to be signed on Monday, October 30, is said to have at least three goals. First, the order will require advanced artificial intelligence models to be evaluated before being used by the U.S. government and its federal workers. It is not clear what models the rule might apply to and what criteria the evaluation might include.

Second, the order will task specific agencies, such as the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy and certain intelligence agencies, with studying how AI can be used to improve national cybersecurity.

The executive order will also make it easier for skilled technology workers to immigrate to the United States, The Washington Post reported.

The executive order may include a fourth aspect

Semafor's separate report from Sept. 27 indicated the order would require cloud companies to report how tech companies use cloud computing resources. The rule is intended to detect foreign artificial intelligence projects that could pose a threat to the country.

While the Journal’s sources did not comment on this aspect of the executive order, Politico’s Oct. 12 report indicated that this is still on track.

Some critics worry that any surveillance effort focused on volume-based monitoring of cloud computing resources could affect other non-AI industries, including game development and Bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining.

The specifics of the order, while supported by many sources, have not yet been finalized, and current reports indicate that the details and timing could change.

In addition to issuing the order, Biden and the White House will reportedly host an event titled "Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy AI" on October 30. The US President previously spoke at the United Nations on AI regulation in September. #行政命令  #人工智能
