EigenLayer (EIGEN), one of the most popular projects in the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector, is experiencing a security issue.

The posts made at noon today indicate that the EigenLayer team's X (formerly Twitter) account was compromised.

The attacker or attackers, whose identity is not yet known, are sharing posts about users who are eligible to participate in the project’s airdrop via EigenLayer’s official X account. Users who want to participate in EigenLayer’s second season are asked to click on a fake link.

It is not yet known how many users this link has harmed so far. In such cases, hackers direct users to fake links, request access to cryptocurrency wallets and can completely empty the victims' wallets. There is no official statement from the EigenLayer team on the subject yet.

EigenLayer is a protocol on Ethereum that introduces a new cryptoeconomic security model known as “restaking.” This model allows Ethereum stakers to reuse their staked ETH or Liquid Staking Tokens (LSTs) to secure additional decentralized applications (DApps) and services within the EigenLayer ecosystem.

Thanks to Restaking, users can provide additional security to different DApps using Ethereum's existing security structure, while also gaining the opportunity to earn more rewards.

Stay tuned for new information.
