Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, shared his goals for the future development of the blockchain. He proposed solutions to improve The Surge, the second phase of Ethereum’s roadmap aimed at scaling the network using rollups.
Buterin plans to solve the blockchain trilemma, improve data availability, improve layer-2 (L2) proof systems, and increase interoperability between L2 chains.
The Surge has already achieved success, such as increasing data throughput and implementing sharding on L2 networks. However, challenges remain, and the task of the developers is to complete the rollup-centric roadmap while maintaining decentralization and resilience of the network.
Key goals include achieving 100,000 transactions per second, maximum interoperability between L2s, and preserving the core properties of Ethereum, such as trust and openness.
Buterin proposed using a combination of data availability sampling and SNARKs to solve the trilemma. This will allow data compression on the Ethereum network and make L2 systems more reliable and trustworthy.
He also noted the importance of improving user navigation in the L2 ecosystem and scaling Ethereum L1 to avoid risks for the entire ecosystem. 🚀
