Tron founder Justin Sun elected Prime Minister of micronation Liberland
Tron founder Justin Sun has been elected Prime Minister of Liberland, a 7km² micronation located between Croatia and Serbia, on an uninhabited strip of land on the banks of the Danube River.
The plot of land, roughly the size of Gibraltar, came about due to a border dispute between Croatia and Serbia, as both countries claim the territory belongs to the other following changes in the course of the Danube due to engineering works.
Liberland was established in 2015 by Czech politician Vit Jedlička, with the vision of creating a truly libertarian society, whose governance and legislation are managed on the blockchain.
According to its website, Liberland allows its citizens and e-residents to start businesses under Liberland law and the jurisdiction of its courts, with insurance, smart and traditional contracts, and the ability to participate in direct democracy from anywhere with an internet connection. Furthermore, the Liberland blockchain uses a nominated proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, making it environmentally friendly.
Liberland has approximately 1,000 citizens, over 4,000 e-residents, and over 700,000 applicants for citizenship.
