US prosecutors are seeking a five-year prison sentence for Ilya Lichtenstein, who admitted to stealing 120,000 Bitcoin from the Bitfinex crypto exchange in 2016. In a filing filed on October 15, the Washington, DC federal court asked Lichtenstein to receive a lesser sentence than the 20-year term for money laundering. Prosecutors said a lighter sentence was warranted because Lichtenstein had no criminal record and made significant contributions to the investigation. A similar reduction was sought for Lichtenstein’s wife, Heather Morgan. Share your thoughts in the comments.
