Web3 gaming blockchain Ronin has announced an integration with the blockchain oracle platform Chainlink to secure the Ronin network’s cross-chain bridge.
On Oct. 10, Ronin announced that it would integrate Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). The platform describes the CCIP as an inter-chain messaging protocol that enables users to send messages, such as transactions, to different blockchains.

The CCIP is powered by decentralized oracle networks that confirm the validity of messages on both the sending and receiving chains.
Ronin validators vote to adopt Chainlink CCIP
According to Ronin, it had conducted a three-phase selection process before ultimately choosing Chainlink’s CCIP as its canonical cross-chain infrastructure.
Ronin said that its integration with Chainlink will improve user experience, reinforce its security, and free up resources to help accelerate Ronin’s adoption.
Jeff Zirlin, the co-founder and chief growth officer of Sky Mavis, said that Chainlink will help enhance the network:
“Chainlink is battle-tested and the backbone of the world’s largest DeFi platforms. Ronin will become stronger and more secure from their contributions.”
Meanwhile, Chainlink Labs’ chief business officer, Johann Eid, said the team is excited to see Ronin adopt the CCIP.
“We’re excited to see the Ronin ecosystem adopt Chainlink CCIP as their network’s canonical cross-chain infrastructure and, in the process, massively level up the security of the network’s official bridge,” Eid said.
No action is required for tokenholders
In the announcement, Ronin highlighted that users do not need to do anything to secure their tokens, as the integration will happen in the background. Both Ronin and Chainlink said they are working to minimize the impact of the CCIP integration on users.
Ronin said that all existing tokens on its blockchain will not need to undergo a user-triggered migration process.
The network explained that all the crypto assets bridged using the existing Ronin Bridge will be upgraded to CCIP for its native cross-chain transfers. The network said it would start by supporting transfers between Ethereum and Ronin.
Ronin added that the entire migration is expected to be completed in two to three months.
Increasing security post-Ronin Bridge hack
The Ronin Bridge hack in 2022 is one of the biggest hacks in crypto history. The attack resulted in the loss of over $600 million in crypto assets.
Since then, Ronin made efforts to bolster its security by increasing its validator count. The new integration with Chainlink’s CCIP is also expected to improve security for the Ronin Bridge.
In the aftermath of the hack, Ronin had worked with regulators to retrieve the stolen funds. On June 7, Sky Mavis said that it had recovered $5.7 million from the incident with the help of Norwegian authorities.
