Dogecoin founder reveals who he thinks is Satoshi Nakamoto
The new HBO documentary MoneyElectric: The Mystery of Bitcoin, which aired on October 8, has sparked a heated debate in the cryptocurrency community. The film suggests that Canadian Bitcoin developer Peter Todd is Satoshi Nakamoto. However, Todd himself has publicly denied the identity.
In response to the documentary's claims, multiple experts have come forward to refute the theory put forward by director Cullen Hoback, who based his conclusion on four arguments, as Bitcoinist reported earlier today. Among those who have refuted the claim is Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus, who is known online as Shibetoshi Nakamoto. “It’s not brother Peter Todd,” Markus said in an interview with X.
When one user asked, “Peter who?”, Markus responded, “You’re definitely not Satoshi unless you’re an idiot. […] He was one of the more original core developers, but not the creator.” Another user further asked, “So who is Satoshi?” Markus cryptically responded, “Someone who is no longer alive.”
Hal Finney is a renowned computer scientist and cryptographer, and one of the earliest participants in the Bitcoin network. His deep involvement and contributions to cryptography and digital currencies have led some to speculate that he may be Satoshi. There are arguments both in favor of and against this possibility.
In August 2009, Finney was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The disabling nature of the disease made it extremely challenging for him to manage and develop Bitcoin while concealing his identity. As his condition worsened, he lost much of his mobility, which would hamper his ability to maintain the rigorous development schedule required for Bitcoin’s early development.
Additionally, Finney recorded email conversations with Satoshi Nakamoto, which is unusual if they are the same person. While some analyses have found similarities in their writing styles, others have highlighted differences in their communication styles and programming methods and conventions.
