Bookmakers on Polymarket and the crypto community are speculating that cryptographer Len Sassaman could be revealed as the creator of Bitcoin in an upcoming documentary on HBO.
The excitement surrounding who will be named the father of Bitcoin in an upcoming HBO documentary is keeping the crypto world interested, but some individuals have been quick to cash in on the opportunity to cash in on tokens amid the drama.
Over the past week, memecoins inspired by cryptographer Len Sassaman – who many Polymarket bettors believe will be revealed as Satoshi Nakamoto – have appeared on the Solana, Ethereum, and Bitcoin networks.
LEN tokens on Solana and Ethereum, issued by savvy traders, quickly reached market capitalizations of several million dollars before suddenly falling. Another LEN token, issued more than four months ago and claimed to be the first token on Solana, saw a significant price increase over the weekend, with a market capitalization of more than $1.6 million as of Monday.
Some have even discovered that Sassaman had a cat named Sasha and created memecoins in its image. Others have suggested that Sassaman’s first cat was ODIN, based on information from his wife Meredith L. Patterson’s blog.
Over the past week, SASHA tokens on Ethereum and Solana have reached a market cap of over $20 million. Several crypto users have reached out to Patterson, Len Sasaman's wife, on the X platform to ask about the memecoins and received a Solana wallet address to donate tokens.
Memecoins are often created as part of internet culture, or to celebrate a particular meme. They leverage the power of community, where shared humor or passion for a meme can create strong support, which in turn increases the value of the token.
Anyone can use smart contracts to issue tokens on blockchains like Solana for just a few cents, and thanks to decentralized exchanges, these tokens can be instantly issued, provided liquidity, and traded.
Some investors believe that memecoins related to Sassaman or his cats could be an undervalued investment opportunity.
“I believe that if HBO releases the documentary and confirms that Len Sassaman is Satoshi, the whole crypto community and major media will mention his name,” commented one X user, @ariesyuangga. “If Len Sassaman is announced as Satoshi Nakamoto, this cat will definitely take off,” shared another user, @dametime_tradez.
The HBO documentary “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery” is scheduled to air on October 8. Currently, Sassaman leads the odds on Polymarket with 37.5%, followed by Hal Finney and Adam Back.
