Indonesia has released a postage stamp with a digital analogue in the form of an NFT.

The new product is called Cenderawasih, which translates as “bird of paradise”.

The postage stamp has a limited edition.

Indonesia's state-owned Post Office (PosIND) has announced the release of the Cenderawasih stamp. The agency's Instagram page states that it combines a physical stamp with its digital counterpart in the form of a non-fungible token (NFT).

The name of the Cenderawasih stamp translates as "bird of paradise". As noted by PosIND representatives, it combines traditional signs confirming payment of postal items with innovations in the field of blockchain. The stamp has a limited edition and will also be released as a booklet.

The initiative is in line with the government's plans to engage Indonesia in the development of the Web3 sector. As a reminder, the country is among the top 3 in terms of cryptocurrency adoption and also leads in terms of interest in tokenized real-world assets (RWA).

In November 2023, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (VRU) approved the law on the issuance of NFT stamps. According to the approved document, the digital postage stamp is considered an object of fine art and is not a means of payment for postal services.

We previously reported that in September, NFT sales reached their lowest level since January 2021. It is known that 464,524 users participated in NFT sales during the month, while another 864,552 made purchases of non-fungible tokens.

Let us recall that in September, an NFT with an estimated value of 600 ETH was sold for only 10 ETH.
