ChainCatcher news, Louisiana government officially began to accept cryptocurrency payments, becoming the latest US state to accept digital currency for state services.
Louisiana Treasurer John Fleming announced earlier this week that residents can now pay for state services using a variety of digital assets, including Bitcoin, Bitcoin Lightning Network, and USDC, a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar.
The state said the first cryptocurrency payment has been completed, using the Bitcoin Lightning Network to pay a fine to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Fleming pointed out that this progress is the result of the state government's cooperation with Bead Pay and local integration partners to modernize the payment system and reduce fraudulent transactions.
