According to Fortune, hacker group Rhysida has demanded a $6 million Bitcoin ransom from the operator of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in exchange for files stolen in a cyberattack last month. The attack took place on August 24, during the busy period before the Labor Day holiday, resulting in the encryption of some data and affecting ticketing, check-in and baggage handling systems, forcing passengers of small airlines to use paper boarding passes. The hackers have posted eight stolen files on the dark web and demanded 100 Bitcoins as a ransom. The airport said it does not intend to pay the ransom, saying that paying the ransom is not a reasonable use of tax funds. The FBI is currently conducting a criminal investigation into the incident.
