ECB Governing Council member Simkus said that an interest rate cut in October is extremely unlikely, but there are many compelling reasons for the ECB to cut interest rates in September:
- There is a very significant downward trend in inflation;
- Economic growth is structurally weak;
- Economic risks are tilted to the downside.
