According to BlockBeats, on August 30, the global government affairs team of X Platform issued a statement in response to the potential suspension of its operations in Brazil by August 29, as ordered by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
The statement expressed concerns that Justice de Moraes might order the shutdown of X Platform in Brazil due to the company's refusal to comply with what it described as his illegal orders to censor his political opponents. These opponents include an elected senator and a 16-year-old girl. The platform highlighted that when it attempted to defend itself in court, Justice de Moraes threatened to imprison its legal representative in Brazil and froze her bank accounts even after her resignation. The platform's challenges to what it termed as Justice de Moraes' illegal actions were either dismissed or ignored, and his colleagues in the Supreme Court were either unwilling or unable to oppose him.
The statement emphasized that while X Platform does not expect other countries to have the same free speech laws as the United States, the core issue is that Justice de Moraes is demanding actions that violate Brazil's own laws, which the platform refuses to do. In the coming days, for the sake of transparency, X Platform plans to publish all of Justice de Moraes' illegal demands and related court documents. Unlike other social media and technology platforms, X Platform stated it will not secretly comply with illegal orders.
X Platform reaffirmed its commitment to protecting free speech for its users in Brazil and around the world.
