ChainCatcher reported that according to Fortune magazine, social media platform "X" said in a brief note to employees on Thursday that its long-standing office and global headquarters in San Francisco will be closed in two weeks on Friday, September 13.
Twitter took over the 1 million square foot building in 2012, and Musk laid off thousands of employees, auctioned off much of the furniture and removed the large Twitter logo from the building's exterior shortly after becoming its owner two years ago. Several floors of the building have been effectively closed since then.
The company has not shared any news with employees since early August, when CEO Linda Yaccarino said in an email that the San Francisco office would be closed. Employees in San Francisco will be transferred to offices in San Jose or Palo Alto. X's headquarters is expected to move to Texas, where other Musk companies such as Tesla, SpaceX and Boring Co are headquartered.
