Golden Finance reported that OpenAI is in talks to raise billions of dollars in a new round of financing, which will bring its valuation to more than $100 billion. According to people familiar with the matter, venture capital firm Thrive Capital is leading this round of financing and will invest about $1 billion. Microsoft is also expected to invest money. The new round of financing will be the largest injection of external funds into OpenAI since Microsoft invested about $10 billion in January 2023. When employees sold existing shares at the end of last year, OpenAI was valued at $86 billion. Thrive Capital has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in OpenAI since last year. Microsoft has invested $13 billion in OpenAI since 2019 and currently owns 49% of the company's profit share. OpenAI's chief financial officer released a memo saying that negotiations for a new round of financing are still in the early stages; funds are being raised and will be used for computing and operating operations.
