The victims were a Chinese man and a local woman who were kidnapped after arriving in Malaysia in July. After their families paid a ransom of $1.2 million (about 8.62 million yuan) through virtual currency, the two victims were released. The police recovered about $373,000 (about 2.68 million yuan) in cash, as well as vehicles, watches, jewelry and other items worth about $700,000 (about 5.02 million yuan)
It is understood that the mastermind of the case was the victim's private driver.
