Several Donald Trump-inspired memecoins soared following the highly anticipated chat between the former US president and Elon Musk on Monday night (12).
While neither man spoke about cryptocurrencies during the two-hour long interview, the conversation appears to have inspired a spike in the value of some of these coins.
The memecoin Pepe (TRUMP), for example, was the biggest standout, registering a 109% increase in the last 24 hours, according to data from CoinMarketCap.
In addition to Pepe (TRUMP), other coins such as the Maga People Token (PEOPLE) also saw significant gains, rising around 80%.
However, not all memecoins saw rallies; some, such as Dark MAGA (DMAA) and Fight to MAGA (FIGHT), fell sharply, losing 46% and 40% of their value, respectively.

The highly anticipated interview between Donald Trump and Elon Musk began with some unforeseen events and a delay of almost an hour, attributed by Musk to an alleged massive DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack that would have hit the platform exactly at the time scheduled for the broadcast.

Musk announced the issue on his X account, saying the team was working to mitigate the attack. “There appears to be a massive DDoS attack on X. We are working to shut it down,” Musk wrote, explaining that the attack was intended to overload the network, preventing users from accessing it.

Despite the delay, the interview went ahead and attracted more than 1 million listeners. At the beginning of the conversation, Musk addressed the technical issues, suggesting that the attack reflected resistance to the idea of giving Trump a voice. “As this massive attack illustrates, there is a lot of opposition to people just listening to what President Trump has to say,” Musk said.

The lack of discussion about cryptocurrencies was even more surprising given the track records of both participants. Trump recently addressed crypto policies as part of his campaign during the BTC 2024 conference in Nashville, while Musk is known for his interest in Dogecoin and as an advocate for cryptocurrencies.
